Bluetooth Wireless Technology – What Is It?

What exactly is bluetooth wireless technology?

Bluetooth is basically just a standard wireless method that is used for communication between devices. Although it is used in many aspects of technology, it is very commonly used for mobile phones since it fits well with the wireless freedom people are already looking for in phones.

A few years back, many cell phones used infrared to send and receive data to nearby devices, including other phones. This was one of the first networking protocols phones had. It required a clear line of sight to transmit data to and from the devices. Infrared was soon replaced by Bluetooth which had a better range, did not require a line of sight, and transmitted data a lot faster at 1 mega bit per second.

Bluetooth soon had a revision in the software for version 2.0. This tripled the data rate possible opening up new applications, while remaining backwards compatible with Bluetooth 1.0. Bluetooth was commonly used for networking between computers and between computers and input/output devices too. Increases in speeds meant faster transmission, less waiting for users, and increased possibilities.

Although the application of this technology is widely known for usage in cell phones, it is invisibly used in many aspects of your home you probably didn't know.

This technology was later introduced into widely popular gaming systems and their remote controllers. Users no longer had to be tied to the consoles with a cable. Handheld game systems use it to communicate with each other. Even toys integrate this software for wireless controls. Computer mice widely use this type of connection along with keyboards too. This helped reduce clutter at the computer desk. The connection of these peripherals require a bluetooth adapter, whether it is integrated into the system or not.
